Potty Training

What was I thinking??? - I started Monday morning by introducing Connor to the toilet and underwear and he hates both of them. I decided to take a friends advice and try to accomplish this in one week. No going back to diapers, except for bedtime. The following picture is after he has been on the toilet for over an hour, refusing to get off because that means he would have to put on his underwear. Apparently he doesn't care that his underwear is "cool" because it's "cars, nemo, buzz, and elmo". Nor does he care that if he actually goes to the bathroom in the toilet, he gets to pick a little car/truck and treat. He just doesn't want to wear underwear. He wants to wear a diaper!!! I refuse to let him put a diaper back on, so needless to say I have scrubbed numerous spots of pee on my carpet. As of day 2, he still has not went in the toilet himself. So wish me good luck for the next few days, I am determined to accomplish this task!! Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I bet he wins! He sounds like one of those "I'll do it when I'm darn good and ready" type of kids. I had some of those! Good luck, you'll need it everytime you potty train one!

Sorry! Every one of my kids were different and different things worked for each one.

That picture makes me laugh!

I tried with Gage a few weeks ago. He feels the same as Connor.... he just WANTS to wear diapers. He tried really hard for a few hours until he got to pick out a truck, and now he is not interested.

Every time I buy a box of diapers, I tell myself "this is the last box I am buying"..... that was about 3 or 4 boxes ago!

The best advice I got was from my pediatrician. I asked him what "method," book, website he recommended. He replied any of them can/will work when the child is ready. If they are not ready they won't work. So, I wait until my child is ready. I would much rather change a dirty diaper than dirty underwear-but that's me. I have many friends/family that start when the parent wants to regardless of the child being ready or not and if the child is not ready the potty training takes forever-but the parent its determined to make it work and sticks with it-clean ups and all, but it takes forever-months/years-not kidding. So, if you have the patience-go for it!!!! If not, it's not the end of the world to have two in diapers. Many other moms do it. As to when the child is ready, dry diapers in the morning, Connor telling you when he has a dirty diaper, but the biggest indicator is his interest in potty training. If he's not interested, it will be an uphill battle-GOOD LUCK!!! You'll have to let us know how it goes. I have one at home that prefers diapers and I think I am going to have to push a little more than I have with the rest. I'd love to hear your advice at the end of the week!
